2022 has seen the 10 year anniversary of many of our franchisees.
We chatted to Alick and Karen from Rugbytots SE Cheshire & Staffordshire Moorlands, who celebrated their 10 year anniversary in May this year, to see how they’re getting on.
Hi guys! First of all, congratulations on your 10 year anniversary! How have you found running a Rugbytots franchise?
Thanks so much! Rugbytots is a great franchise to be part of as you are part of a global brand and receive lots of support from Head Office and other franchisees. The last few years have obviously brought fresh challenges with Covid and we have had to adapt to ever-changing regulations, including taking our classes online!
The best part is the children and parents we work with and seeing children gain in so many ways through the programme. We have families who have been with us for years as two, three and sometimes four children from the same family will work through the programme. We are always sad to see families come to the end of their journey with us but many keep in touch and we LOVE hearing how they all are.
We have also enjoyed working alongside our three sons, who have all worked coaching with us, before moving to different areas of the UK for study and work.
What made you decide to take on a Rugbytots franchise?
Alick was looking for a change of career after 20 years working in the Commercial removal industry (think organising moving thousands of staff and their furniture and IT equipment to a new location!) We wanted something that fitted in better around our three young boys and Alick was already coaching at the local rugby club. Within 12 months of setting up the franchise, Karen had left her job as an early-year practitioner to work alongside Alick.
What would you say are your biggest achievements, or proudest moments, so far with the business?
Wow, there are so many! We have won numerous awards for our classes, that have all been voted for my parents. We’re also very proud of our charity efforts with the Rugbytots Try-Athlons over the years. Rugbytots SE Cheshire & Staffordshire Moorlands has raised over £12,000, that has been used by Wooden Spoon the Children’s charity of Rugby to support disabled and disadvantaged children in our local area.
And we can’t forget our trips with our Rugbytots to watch & flag wave at Macclesfield Rugby Club and to Sale sharks where all the Rugbytots (over 300!) were flag wavers and watched the game.
We now coach about 500 children in community classes and primary schools in term time, working six days a week. We love it and love welcoming new children to our classes!
Thanks so much for catching up with us Alick and Karen!
